Artist Statement
While creating art you come to realize that the mistakes you make in creating a work of art can make it something even more beautiful. You realize that inspiration doesn’t just come from what’s inside you, it comes from what’s outside of you as well. Since I was a little kid I’ve enjoyed picking up pens and pencils and drawing whatever comes to mind. The messier I could get with my art the better. Even if that meant painting me and everything else but the paper in the process. As I reached middle school I began to love art even more, so much so that weekly visits to the art museum to see works by Jules Bastien-Lepage, Georges Braque, Georgia O'Keeffe and many others wasn’t enough. I wanted to become inspired and create pieces just like them. So when the opportunity came up to select what arts program I wanted to do in high school freshman year I went with art and have stuck with it ever since. Even though I’ve moved pasted splattering paint on my kitchen walls like a little kid I think I have been able to keep some of that childlike inspiration and challenge it into what I do now. Now I create digital colleges and block prints, with the occasional drawing from time to time. It's not that I don't like to create new works of art but I think that having the creative freedom for one to express themselves through is where the passion for art is developed. It doesn't matter if others like an artist's work or not, just that the artist feels happy with their results and doesn't care about the viewer’s thoughts. One has to be open to creative ideas and collaborations along with constructive criticism from others. |
